Salvation
Have you ever wondered why you felt something was missing in your life? John chapter 3 records a conversation Jesus has with a man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus asked Jesus, "How can a man be born again?" Jesus answered him, "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." It is through this kind of faith in Jesus we are saved or born again.
At it's most simple: Admit that you are a sinner and need a Savior who is Jesus. Believe that Jesus is the Way of salvation and was the sacrifice for your sin. Finally, Confess Him as the Lord of your life.
Baptism
Jesus tells us as recorded in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all things that I have commanded you".
The next step of obedience to Jesus following a salvation experience is water baptism. It is an outward, public expression of an inward change and a confession that Jesus is your savior and Lord.
